Last week we invited you to enter our Switch to Mac contest featuring Chris Pirillo’s video of him helping Uncle John switch to a Mac using Parallels Desktop Switch to Mac.  After compiling your Twitter retweets and comments, we have randomly selected two winners: congratulations to Debora Corrin and David Walker, @DNWphoto!  David is our retweet winner and Debora is our comment winner for sharing why she wants to switch to Mac:

“I want to switch my Windows laptop to Mac because there IS NO easier OS than Mac, but, there ARE still some Windows based apps that I LOVE and want to keep!”

Thank you to all our participants.  Be sure to keep checking in with us @ParallelsMac on Twitter and Parallels on Facebook.

We Are Family: Chris Pirillo helps Uncle John switch to Mac
August 16th, 2010

When Uncle John’s Windows PC died, technology guru Chris Pirillo and his assistant Kat did hours of research to find the best computer to surprise him with as thanks for his online community support.  Although Uncle John was a lifetime Windows PC user, they decided to get him a Mac and used Parallels Desktop Switch to Mac to make the switch simple.

“It’s awesome! You would not believe the advantages of having both operating systems at your fingertips at the same exact time.  I don’t think I could ever go back,” said Uncle John.  In fact, he was so excited he made the video below to share how easy it was for him to switch to Mac.

Now you can win a free copy of Parallels Desktop Switch to Mac to help you or a friend make the switch.  There are two ways for a chance to win:

PC Holiday

While I heard the old hits of Thriller, The Time Warp and The Monster Mash on the radio, and saw the cob web decorations paraded in many stores and restaurants before this past Halloween, I was reminded that Thanksgiving was quickly creeping up.  There were beanie babies of turkeys ready to be sold and commercials reminiscent of Thanksgiving dinner on the radio and on television (or rather Hulu).  Without Halloween even passing, stores, restaurants and companies are ready to finish the last leg of the race to the new year with the slew of profitable holidays in between.  After Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Kwanza and Ramadan come racing before the start of the new year.

At this point of the year, we, as consumers, are presented with the plethora of PC holiday ads making sure not to exclude different ethnic/religious groups.  I do not think that we should forget about these cultural sensitivities, but not everything has to be this way.  People are too careful and are walking on eggshells in fear of offending other people.

The switch to Mac is not this complicated.  While many PC v. Mac commercials try to peg “old” against “hip and trendy,” one option that has not been as thoroughly explored  however, is what about being “old,” “hip,” and “trendy” like Eugene Levy or that dad from Modern Family? Well, I think that there can be a synergy of both.

I found out today that Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac was released with even more features that make PCs and Macs more compatible and this software helps to bridge these seemingly polarized systems.  With new modes like Crystal mode, I can use my Mac and my PC windows look like they are a tool in my tool bar of my Mac.

So if you are looking to be pc around the holidays, check out Parallels because it is a virtual machine that doesn’t exclude anyone and makes my switch as easy as <culturally sensitive insert>.
