Print that!
September 17th, 2010

Running late and need to quickly print that boarding pass, but don’t want to deal with booting up the computer you just shut down and packed away? Or maybe you’d like to print and frame that screenshot of your epic Words With Friends win? iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users will soon be able to print directly from their devices when Apple releases iOS 4.2 in November. But as you may know, the Parallels Mobile app already lets you print from your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch via your Parallels Desktop. So that’s cool.

Apple’s Airprint sounds great, but it may have some limitations. If your printer isn’t networked, or you’re not printing to a supported wireless printer like HP’s ePrint, you may be out of luck.

The Parallels mobile app is free and available now from the iTunes store.

Don’t Mess Around with Angry Birds
August 20th, 2010

I may be late to the Angry Birds party, but I’m here now and I don’t think I can leave. For those of you who don’t know, Angry Birds is a highly addictive iPhone and iPad app. The premise is straightforward; evil green pigs stole the birds’ eggs, which of course made them very angry and they must destroy everything in their path for vengeance. Perfect.

As you can see, these birds mean business. I had a cross country flight this week with no wifi so I thought it would be a good opportunity to check this game out. I proceeded to dump 4 straight hours into it. While the concept may seem silly (by “silly” I mean awesome), there’s just something about using a slingshot to fling angry birds at green pigs to cause as much damage as possible, very rewarding.

I was initially disheartened when I finished the first 63 levels in the “Poached Eggs” segment because I thought I had already completed the game, but really had only completed the first section. And even if you do complete each level in the game, you’ll want to keep coming back for more to get higher scores and a  three star ranking on each level.

The full version of Angry Birds is available in the App Store for $0.99 on iPhone/iPod Touch and $4.99 on iPad. And you can check out the lite version for free as well. You can check out some game play footage below.

Be warned, Angry Birds is very addictive.

Want a Free iPhone 4 case? There’s an App for That
July 23rd, 2010

Apple started fulfilling the “free case for all” program promised at last Friday’s press conference. Any iPhone 4 user who didn’t purchase a case or bumper from Apple can now download the “iPhone 4 Case Program” app. The new app is the only way to get a free case. Users cannot place an order at Apple.com, in an Apple store, or in the “other” Apple shopping app, “Apple Store”.

After downloading the app, iPhone 4 users have the choice of 8 different cases, only one of the eight (a black Bumper) being from Apple. Each case has an estimated shipping time of a speedy 3-5 weeks. Most of these cases aren’t really available yet so reviews are scarce, but here is a general breakdown of what’s available.

Ideally, users would be able to walk into their local Apple store and pick up their case. Even though five weeks is a really long time to wait if you are experiencing serious antenna issues, at least the price is right. Now, for those users who just don’t like the iPhone 4 anymore:

Which case will you get?

iTrust: Helping One Cheater At A Time
January 19th, 2010

The iPhone does everything.  You can order your groceries, find the nearest restaurant, find out the name of the mysterious song that is playing in a store, and finally catch your significant or not so significant other trying to snoop into your business or allow you to cheat better.

It was bound to happen, but there is a new iPhone app called the iTrust that can track if a person is trying to hack into your iPhone.  The app “takes a screenshot of your homescreen (which you can take by pressing Sleep+Home at any time) and sets it as a full-screen background. If someone tries to use your phone while it’s running, they’ll see what looks like a regular homescreen, but won’t be able to do anything with it—it’s a dead image, after all. Whatever they try to do, though, is saved in an excruciating, slo-mo simulated screen recording” [via Gizmodo].

Take a look at this video that shows the iTrust in action:
