iPhone 4G Reviews, Reviews, and More Reviews
June 23rd, 2010

The first batch of pre-oreder iPhone 4Gs arrived today and almost immediately reviews of Apple’s newest smart phone started to circulate. After reading through a number of them, we’ve found, not surprisingly, the comments are almost entirely positive.

Here are a few of the reviews that we’ve seen from notable sources:

USA Today:

“Buyers won’t be disappointed. The killer feature is what Apple calls FaceTime video chat. The promise that you and the person you’re talking to on a phone can gaze into each other’s eyes dates back to when LBJ occupied the White House. No one has really nailed video calling through the years, at least not the way Apple has nailed it here, with certain limitations. FaceTime is as simple as making a regular call. To help to accomplish this neat stunt, iPhone 4 adds a front-facing camera that complements the more traditional, and improved, camera on back.”

CNET:

“On the whole, this iPhone 4 has us more excited than we were last year when the the 3GS was born. The new features, particularly those in the new operating system, are long overdue and we welcome any efforts to improve call quality (remember that it is a phone, after all). There were a few things that we were hoping for that we didn’t get–a 64GB model, among them–but we look forward to reviewing this model.”

Engadget:

“We’re not going to beat around the bush — in our approximation, the iPhone 4 is the best smartphone on the market right now. The combination of gorgeous new hardware, that amazing display, upgraded cameras, and major improvements to the operating system make this an extremely formidable package. Yes, there are still pain points that we want to see Apple fix, and yes, there are some amazing alternatives to the iPhone 4 out there. But when it comes to the total package — fit and finish in both software and hardware, performance, app selection, and all of the little details that make a device like this what it is — we think it’s the cream of the current crop. We won’t argue that a lot of this is a matter of taste — some people will just prefer the way Android or Symbian works to the iPhone, and others will be on the lookout for a hardware keyboard or a particular asset that the iPhone 4 lacks — but in terms of the total picture, it’s tough to deny that Apple has moved one step past the competition with this phone. Of course, in the hyper-accelerated smartphone market where the Next Big Thing seems to always be just around the corner, it’s anyone’s guess how long they keep that edge.”

There you have it, the iPhone 4G is the best smart phone on the market. Now go out and get your own.

Let the iPhone 4 Camping Begin!
June 18th, 2010

With the first batch of 600,000 pre-order iPhone 4s set to ship on July 14 being sold out, going to the Apple Store there is only one way for those eager iPhone 4 fans who didn’t pre-order to get their hands on the coveted Apple gadget.

Even though the Apple store officially begins selling the iPhone 4G on June 24th, one Texas man has already staked his claim as one of the “biggest Apple fans” by being the first in line outside the Knox Street Apple Store in Dallas Texas. Dallas native Justin Wagoner set up camp outside the store yesterday, 7 days early. Sure he may be considered a little over-zealous by some but he heralds himself as “…a very determined fan”. Even the Apple Store staff is treating him “like a king”. Video of Justin below:

Here’s an excerpt from Justin on MacRumors:

Greeting to everyone from your famous camper! This is my first official post for MacRumors. One of the users printed off a copy of the thread and brought it to me and I thought it would be fun to join the conversation.

Some would say I am crazy, but I say I’m a very determined fan. In fact I just might be one the biggest Apple fans you will actually meet. I have been the first costumer for this store since 2008 when the iPhone 3G was released.

Normally I only camp out over night, but since I do not work due to the fact I am disabled with a seizure disorder and I am not in school at the point, I figure I just make it a fun experience and do it for a week.

Yes I did reserve a phone, but again, I’m doing it for a fun experience. I haven’t had a trip or vacation in past 10 years so I figured I make it a full week camping trip.

My setup and location has everything I could need to live for a week, even in the Texas heat. Tent is packed with a sleeping gear, a chair, full ice chest of drinks and food, and the Apple staff have been very nice to me treating me like a king. LOL I also brought a extension power cord for phone charging and things that need power. There is even a portable toilet around the back of the store if needed.

That been said, I’m actually doing really well out here. If anyone gets a chance, come join the fun!

iPhone 4g and 3g Diplays Compared: Just how sharp is the retina display?
June 14th, 2010

When Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone 4 at last week’s WWDC, one of the most intriguing features was the new retina display. The new display has been described as “pushing against limits of the human body” and “as clear as most printed magazines.”

According to Apple, the iPhone 4g screen touts a 4x increased pixel density with 326dpi resolution making it so the pixels are not discernible to the naked eye from ten inches away. However, since the Apple keynote there has been plenty of skepticism as to just how sharp the image actually is. Just click on these pictures to see for yourself how crisp the retina display is as compared to the 3g display.

The End is Near: iPhone 3G 8GB prices reduced and shipments stopped
May 24th, 2010

According to a BGR report Apple has stopped shipments of the iPhone 3G 8GB:

“A move that is sure to surprise few, we suppose. We’ve heard that Apple has stopped shipping iPhone 3G 8GB units to AT&T stores and orders are not being placed for the device. Could this mean we might see the iPhone 3GS drop to $99 and make way for a new model?…”

The iPhone model is still available in the Apple Store and AT&T at a lowered cost of $99. The move appears to be in preparation for a new iPhone model expected to be announced by Apple’s own Steve Jobs at WWDC on June 7th. Could this be the beginning of the end for all iPhone 3Gs?

Let the Bleeding Continue: Leaked iPod Touch Comes with 2 Megapixel Camera
May 19th, 2010

Here we go again. The title says it all; Apple’s string of leaks continues with the latest gadget being an iPod touch which with a built in camera. Tinhte, the Vietnamese  company familiar with Apple leaks, has the first pictures of the newest device. As explained by Engadget, the “DVT-1″ stamp on the shows that this is an early design verification test unit used during product testing. This means that it may not be the final design. The serial number identifies the iPod as a late 2009 third generation iPod touch. Potentially, this device was one of those that never made it to production.

The most notable features are the 64GB hard drive inside and of course, the 2 megapixel camera on the back. Also, it does not appear to be taking the shape of the leaked iPhone 4g. The new iPod looks intriguing but it remains to be seen if it is fake or not, and with all the buzz and recent history of Apple leaks we wouldn’t be too surprised. Note to Apple: it may be time for a security overhaul.
