Web 2.0 Dating: How Is The Digital World Changing Relationships?
December 25th, 2009

There have been many articles discussing the change in the world with technology and social behavior.  Facebook continues to develop and shape the way that people interact, however Facebook is not the only online media channel at fault.  Twitter also has affected the way in which people interact.  Social rules and constructs are evolving.  ”Poking” on Facebook is flirtatious, but “super poking” is creepy and crossing the line.  Sending a direct message is also much more formal than writing on someone’s wall.  Following someone on Twitter is friendly, but tweeting about your crush is not acceptable. With all of these rules, you are bound to break one, so here is some advice when you attend holiday parties and find someone of your fancy:

At your next holiday party, think about the way you interact with a lover potential and remember, don’t be a stalker.

PC Holiday

While I heard the old hits of Thriller, The Time Warp and The Monster Mash on the radio, and saw the cob web decorations paraded in many stores and restaurants before this past Halloween, I was reminded that Thanksgiving was quickly creeping up.  There were beanie babies of turkeys ready to be sold and commercials reminiscent of Thanksgiving dinner on the radio and on television (or rather Hulu).  Without Halloween even passing, stores, restaurants and companies are ready to finish the last leg of the race to the new year with the slew of profitable holidays in between.  After Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Kwanza and Ramadan come racing before the start of the new year.

At this point of the year, we, as consumers, are presented with the plethora of PC holiday ads making sure not to exclude different ethnic/religious groups.  I do not think that we should forget about these cultural sensitivities, but not everything has to be this way.  People are too careful and are walking on eggshells in fear of offending other people.

The switch to Mac is not this complicated.  While many PC v. Mac commercials try to peg “old” against “hip and trendy,” one option that has not been as thoroughly explored  however, is what about being “old,” “hip,” and “trendy” like Eugene Levy or that dad from Modern Family? Well, I think that there can be a synergy of both.

I found out today that Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac was released with even more features that make PCs and Macs more compatible and this software helps to bridge these seemingly polarized systems.  With new modes like Crystal mode, I can use my Mac and my PC windows look like they are a tool in my tool bar of my Mac.

So if you are looking to be pc around the holidays, check out Parallels because it is a virtual machine that doesn’t exclude anyone and makes my switch as easy as <culturally sensitive insert>.
