Steve Jobs’ Mansion Blueprints
September 28th, 2010

The architectural plans for Steve Jobs’ new mansion have emerged, and it looks pretty slick as you might expect. Basically, if you took every Mac product that Steve Jobs has ever made and made them into a house, you’d get Steve Jobs’ mansion. Although it probably doesn’t run on AT&T 3G. It uses space and energy efficiently, uses minimalist design, etc. How very Steve Jobsian.

But there are two real stories here. First, the mansion only cost $8.5 million dollars. That is hardly even a mansion, to be honest. I mean, it’s not the kind of house that I could afford, but it is the kind of house that I could almost afford if my mutual fund investments hold their value and I sell my baseball cards strategically. A $8.5 million home is what millionaires invest in, not what billionaires invest in. So I say kudos to Steve Jobs for showing us all that he can all be happy even if he doesn’t grind his wealth into everyone else’s faces. (As a point of reference, Bill Gates’s house is worth an estimated US$147.5 million.)

The second story is that the lot currently has a Spanish Colonial Revival home designed for a copper baron, which has not been lived in for more than a decade. And the place is awesome. The kind of place that has wrought-iron chandeliers and, best of all, a full pipe organ in the parlor. I wish I had a pipe organ in my parlor. A few photos below for your enjoyment.

Just like the dilapidated chandelier in every scary movie.

Apple Products: “Introducing the Most (Blank) Ever”
July 28th, 2010

Any time Apple comes out with a new product they send current customers a fun email that lets them know what new exciting shiny thing they can purchase. Often this means that the current exciting shiny thing they own is now obsolete or at least on the way out the door.

Yesterday, Apple sent out an overview email for the iMac refresh and the Magic Trackpad. The email is complete with beautiful pictures of the new shiny thing and how to buy one immediately.

A friend pointed out to me the formulaic nature of said emails. They include subjects like, “Introducing the most powerful iMac ever.” And tag lines in the body like, “This changes everything. Again” (iPhone 4), “Ultrathin. Ultraportable. And ultra unlike anything else” (MacBook Air) or most recently, “The ultimate all-in-one. Turbocharged” (iMac).

How would your Apple product introduction read?

Introducing the most __________ ever.

Apple to Hold Press Conference to Discuss the iPhone 4
July 15th, 2010

This Wednesday Apple announced they will be holding a special press conference on Friday discussing, you guessed it, the iPhone 4. There is currently not much known about the event other than that it will be about the iPhone 4 and that only a very select group of people have been invited.

Though there has been some speculation and hope for a drop in price, many, including ourselves, are just hoping for some type of a response to the glaring reception problem.

iPhone Prototype Lost Again: iPhone 4th Generation found in Vietnam
May 12th, 2010

After Gray Powell lost the iPhone prototype during a rowdy, inebriated night in a San Jose bar, Apple seemed to react strongly to misplacement of the prototype.  You would think that after this grave error of Powell, that Apple would have a lockdown on their security of the iPhone prototypes.

Well, supposedly some mysterious Vietnamese business man bought an iPhone prototype and iPad.  This man lost his iPhone prototype and now the media is in another whirlwind of excitement. The main differences between this prototype and Gray Powell’s prototype is that “the screws on the bottom near the dock connector have disappeared, the phone’s capacity is listed as 16 GB rather than XX GB like on the Gizmodo iPhone, and the battery has a 5.00 watt-hour capacity compared to the Gizmodo iPhone’s 5.25 watt-hour battery. In all other respects, it appears to be the same iPhone, complete with a front-facing camera, a flash for the rear camera, micro-SIM slot on the side, and a metallic midsection with curiously visible seams” [via TUAW]. Supposedly this iPhone 4the genration may have graphics capabilities.  Watch this video as Tinhte.com observes the differences with the iPhone 4th generation:

Someone’s Getting Fired At Apple: Apple iPhone 4G Revealed
April 19th, 2010

This weekend, “someone” from Apple or at least someone who has access or has relations with the big boys at Apple left a prototype of the Apple iPhone 4G phone at a San Jose bar.  Gizmodo, Engadget and various other tech blogs are obsessed with this iPhone discovery and this news spread like wildfire. So here we are spreading the MSG around this stir fry of news.

Here is the iPhone 4G in action:

To be honest though, my money goes on Eric Schmidt as the mole/schmuck who left the iPhone 4G at the bar.  He was probably meeting a young, “CEO-digger.”
