End World Hunger? Or Buy More Mobile Apps?
September 23rd, 2011

WebPageFX created a Star Wars® themed infographic that compares various Mobile App stores. This infographic was featured on PCMag.com.

The main operating systems that use Mobile Apps are Android®, Apple®, and Blackberry®. While Apple has the most apps available, Androids are the most popular phone and therefore use apps more frequently.

While most of the statistics listed in this infographic are pretty self-explanatory, there is one stat that baffled us. The estimated 2011 Mobile App Revenue is $15.1 billion. This wouldn’t be that scary if the World Bank hadn’t estimated that $11.8 billion annually would essentially end world hunger.

Illuminating Photo Study Reveals iPhone Users Have More Sex
August 10th, 2010

The dating site OkCupid, released their findings on an analysis of over five hundred thousand user pictures. The data comes from users making snap judgments while comparing the photographs which allowed conclusions like:  People look more attractive with Panasonic cameras and using a flash makes you look older.

As an added bonus, these analysts discovered that iPhone users have more sex than any other smart phone owners. How did they discover this while conducting a study on what makes a good picture? Turns out:

We found this data as part of our general camera-efficacy analysis: we crossed all kinds of user behaviors with the camera models and found we had data on the number of sexual partners for 9,785 people with smart phones. We dropped what we found into Excel, and voila.

So there we have it, scientific proof of the iPhone’s sexiness (like there was any doubt).  And now you know that you’ve got your work cut out for you the next time you see someone break out their Nexus One in the bar. They’re doing a public service over there at OkCupid.

Android vs. iPhone: Is the Android winning?
May 11th, 2010

Today, unfortunately in the battle between man vs. beast, Steve Jobs vs. Eric Schmidt, iPhone vs. Android, we have found that the Droid is winning.  According to the NPD Consumer Market Research, the Android phone is outselling the iPhone by 7% in the first three months of 2010.  Apple, or rather Steve Jobs, is a prideful person and therefore had to respond to this  study.  Apple stated to The Loop:

This is a very limited report on 150,000 US consumers responding to an online survey and does not account for the more than 85 million iPhone and iPod touch customers worldwide,” Apple spokesperson Natalie Harrison, told The Loop. “IDC figures show that iPhone has 16.1 percent of the smartphone market and growing, far outselling Android on a worldwide basis. We had a record quarter with iPhone sales growing by 131 percent and with our new iPhone OS 4.0 software coming this summer, we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.

You heard Apple, “we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”  However, according to this Smartphone operating system unit share trend, the Blackberry and the Android are leading the sales in Smartphone operating systems.

While Eric Schmidt and Steve Jobs battle their egos, is Schmidt having the last laugh? or will the iPhone OS 4.0 blow the Android out of the water?
