Banned: iPads Strike Out at Yankee Stadium
May 25th, 2010
The above picture may be the closest your iPad will ever get to New York’s historic Yankee Stadium. According to an AP report, iPads have been banned from entering Yankee Stadium. Apple’s device has been labeled as a “security and safety issue” in the stadium’s security policy which was originally intended to prohibit laptops and now includes iPads. Major League Baseball’s stance on the issue leaves it up to each individual team to make the decision.
MLB Advanced Media CEO Bob Bowman summed it up in an interview with Business Insider stating that the Yankees decided on the ban because they, “didn’t want fans to get hurt by [becoming] distracted and getting hit in the face with a ball.”
Banning the device because of a fear of theft is one thing but because it’s a distraction seems a bit over the top. What about the programs sold at a the ball park? And scorecards? How about peanuts and cracker jacks? Are these delicious distractions not safety issues too?

So if you’re looking to head to a game and you don’t want to end up like this guy, leave your iPad at home.
