iPad = World’s Best TV Remote
May 18th, 2010

Since the release of Apple’s iPad in April, there have been seemingly endless possibilities of tasks your iPad can do for you. It has replaced your iPod, your laptop and even your bookshelf, which is currently collecting dust now that you read your favorite novels via iBook. However, with all the time spent on your iPad, you’ve grown to miss the familiar glow of your living room TV. You have dreamed of the day when your iPad could search for TV shows, movies, video on demand, and program your DVR recordings remotely. Now, with the Xfinity Remote App by Comcast, your dream has just come true.

During The Cable Show 2010, a trade show hosted by the National Cable and Telecommunications Association, Comcast presented their new app, the Xfinity Remote, which transforms the iPad into a web-based TV remote.

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts explains that the iPad is paired to a user’s cable box similar to how smart-phone owners might connect a Bluetooth device. There is also a social network built into the app which allows users to chat with friend or share recommended shows.

Good news for all of those iPad owners who easily misplace your TV remotes and are too lazy to look for it.

Anything is an improvement over Comcast's excuse for a remote.
  • Pretty cool, but isn't this missing the #1 feature everyone should want? : The ability to watch television on your iPad.
