We Are Family: Chris Pirillo helps Uncle John switch to Mac
August 16th, 2010

When Uncle John’s Windows PC died, technology guru Chris Pirillo and his assistant Kat did hours of research to find the best computer to surprise him with as thanks for his online community support.  Although Uncle John was a lifetime Windows PC user, they decided to get him a Mac and used Parallels Desktop Switch to Mac to make the switch simple.

“It’s awesome! You would not believe the advantages of having both operating systems at your fingertips at the same exact time.  I don’t think I could ever go back,” said Uncle John.  In fact, he was so excited he made the video below to share how easy it was for him to switch to Mac.

Now you can win a free copy of Parallels Desktop Switch to Mac to help you or a friend make the switch.  There are two ways for a chance to win:

Come Here My Precious: iPhone 4 Release Day. Get some.
June 24th, 2010

Aside from being St. Jean the Baptiste day, today the iPhone 4 was birthed.  This time, there was  no “unfortunate” leak in Vietnam, but rather a true and planned release in stores.  Lines were going around the block as eager users were and still are waiting to get their hands on a new iPhone 4.  I have a strong feeling there were many people experiencing a “sick” day or at least coming in late to work today.  My friend got his iPhone 4 today:

So while you may not have pre-ordered your phone like my smart friend did, you still have a chance to gain techie cred by going to get your iPhone 4 today.  You probably won’t have as much street cred as my friend though because you know when a man wears a shirt that says “Have You Hugged This Shirt Today?” that he means business.

Rumor No More: Visa and DeviceFidelity Partner Up For A Wallet-less Future
May 18th, 2010

While the rumors have been flurrying, they have come to a halt.  Visa has admitted a partnership with DeviceFidelity to create a world where all you have to carry is your iPhone.  According to the Visa press release today:

DeviceFidelity, Inc. today announced the availability of its In2Pay solution for iPhone, designed to enable iPhone users to make contactless transactions, such as Visa mobile payments, by simply waving the iPhone in front of a contactless payment terminal. The solution combines DeviceFidelity’s In2Pay microSD technology with a specially designed, patent-pending protective case that adds mobile contactless capability and works with iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.

By placing a removable In2Pay microSD into the protective case, iPhone users can take advantage of In2Pay’s secure contactless capabilities where contactless transactions are offered. They range from buying goods in retail stores and at unattended kiosks, to transit ticketing, and even securely accessing buildings and computers networks. Trials are scheduled to start during the second quarter of 2010.

Take a look at this video of how the In2Pay microSD would work:

The iPhone is revolutionizing the way in which we socialize and interact in society. So what is going to happen to the wallet market of manufacturers?  Will companies like Kenneth Cole, Burberry, Coach, and Dooney & Bourke, have to submit to this evolving society of technology and jump on the iPhone train for customizable skins for iPhones and iPads like Skinit? Will consumer products like Burberry have to build a tech team to keep up with the times? What market does technology not touch?
